Gotcha
The Gotcha is the Charlie's pink-nosed descendant that became the Bahamas' default bonefish fly - if a guide hands you one fly on any flat on earth, it's probably this.
Born of a Nassau airport-carpet wing (truly - the original used carpet fibers) and named for the guide's shout at each hookup, the Gotcha refined the Charlie with a pearl body, craft-fur wing and its signature pink thread nose - the little hot-spot that bonefish across the Caribbean have approved for forty years.
What it imitates
A fleeing glass shrimp - pale translucence, pink trigger, sandy hop.
When & where it wins
THE Bahamas standard and a worldwide default; any pale-sand flat, schoolies to double-digit singles.
How to fish it
As the Charlie: lead, settle, hop-hop-pause on the approach, strip-strike on the tip-down tail-up eat.
Sizes & variants
2-8 (4-6 standard); pearl/tan with pink nose canonical, orange or chartreuse noses by mood; eye weight by depth.
Tying notes
Craft fur + pearl braid + pink thread - among the easiest salt ties; guides' boxes hold fifty.
Common mistakes
The same three as all flats fishing: bad lead, moving on the stare, trout-setting - plus ignoring eye-weight matching to water depth (splash spooks thin-water fish).
