Popping Cork

The popping cork turns a float into a fish-caller. Its cupped face and wire-strung rattle beads mean a sharp twitch makes a loud pop-and-clack that mimics shrimp fleeing and gamefish feeding - and inshore redfish, speckled trout and flounder come to investigate, find the live shrimp or soft plastic suspended below, and eat. What it is

When to use it
Inshore saltwater over grass flats and oyster country for redfish, speckled trout and flounder; stained water where sound calls fish; and suspending live shrimp or soft plastics at a set depth.
How to set it up
Rig the cork on the line (or use a fixed 'cork') with a leader below to a live shrimp, shrimp imitation or paddle-tail; set the leader length to the fish's depth. Cast, let it settle, then POP with a sharp downward rod snap, pause, and repeat.
Reading the bite
The cork vanishes or skates sideways between pops - that's the eat under the noise. Reel tight and sweep-set.
Sizing & shotting
Choose a cork that floats your live bait and casts in the wind; weighted-bottom versions cast farther and pop louder. Leader length sets the bait depth over grass.
Common mistakes
Popping so constantly the fish never find the bait, leader set wrong for the depth (bait in the grass or too high), and using it in dead-calm clear water where the noise can spook rather than call.
