Start light, add up: begin below this and pinch on more only until the bait just holds where you want it. The lightest weight that does the job gives you the most feel and the most bites.
⚠️ A ballpark to start from, not a rule. Wind, line diameter, bait size and cast distance all change what it takes to hold bottom. Check local rules too: some fisheries restrict or ban lead, so non-toxic tin, tungsten or steel may be required.
